Day 3 – Anticipation

“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time — past and future — the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.Eckhart Tolle

The reason I chose to do this blog based on one word each day is because it forced me to stop and appreciate the small moments in life. As I was reflecting on the day, the word anticipation popped into my head. If you live in the midwest, you might have heard about the huge storm that was supposed to be heading our way. All week I was anticipating all the snow that was coming. When I woke up this morning, I was waiting for the storm. All day long, I was checking the weather. And, of course, the reason I was doing this was because I wanted to stay safe, but it made me think of all the times in life when I am just waiting for something else to happen. I do this often. Always waiting for the next thing. So, the next time I find myself looking for the next thing to happen or anticipating something new, I am going to challenge myself to stay present and in the moment. Because if I don’t, I risk missing all the beautiful moments of each day.

  1. I love how you used a quote as your hook, and then explained your process. I agree that it is tricky remaining in the now. As teachers we always have a running list in our head of what needs to be done and what is next.
How do you select your daily word for SOLSC? I am intrigued.
